In practicing for over 3 decades, our attorneys have seen many juvenile cases as well as adult cases. Traffic cases are very common for juveniles just like they are for adults. However, the outcome of juvenile traffic cases is often different from that of adult traffic cases. There are several factors to any case involving Ohio juvenile traffic violations. We discuss a few of them here, but this article may not cover everything that could apply to your case. If you have questions about an Ohio juvenile traffic violation, you can always contact an attorney.
Ohio Laws for Juvenile Traffic Violations
Suspensions
According to Section 4510.31 of the Ohio Revised Code (ORC), a Juvenile will face a suspension of their license or permit after a certain number of traffic offenses. For most traffic violations, it only takes two or three offenses for the juvenile’s license or permit to be suspended. If the violation in question is an OVI, the juvenile’s license may be suspended after only one offense. OVI can also lead to juvenile detention (ORC Section 2152.21).
The Ohio BMV website also lists a number of suspensions, and how to have a juvenile’s license reinstated.
Driving Privileges
In some circumstances, the Court may grant a juvenile with a suspended license certain driving privileges. ORC Section 4510.021 Describes the situations where the Court may grant limited driving privileges. However, this does not guarantee that the Court will grant driving privileges in any specific situation.
